If you book one of the larger apartments, "Oskar and Lilli" or "Mitzi and Paula", for three or four people, we also provide the additional set(s).

Bibliotels
Altstadthaus Graz is a proud member of the Bibliotels. As such we offer our guests a wide selection of books and took great care in creating a comfortable reading atmosphere in all our apartments.

Cancellation Policy
Our cancellation policy is based on the basic terms of service of the Austrian hotel association (AGBH). Generally, we consider reservations as fixed after we have received a 50% deposit of the sum total. Cancelling a booking is free of charge up until 14 days before the date of arrival. After that we keep the deposit as cancellation fee.

Check-In Times
You can check in between 3.30 and 6.30 pm. However, as the Altstadthaus does not have a reception, we ask our guests to tell us their time of arrival in advance.

Check-Out Time... is till 10 am. If you haven`t left the apartment by that time we will have to charge you for one additional day.

Children
Children up to 2 years stay at the Altstadthaus free of charge.

City Tax
The city charges an accomodation fee of €2.50 per night per person. We must collect this fee for the city. There is no charge for children up to the age of 15.

Cot for Babies/Small Children and High Chair
Upon request, we can provide you with a cot and high chair for babies or smaller children. Please be aware that only the larger apartments "Oskar and Lilli" and "Mitzi and Paula" offer enough space to add a cot.

Kitchen
The kitchen is fully stocked. In addition to the stove top and oven, you will find a filter coffee maker and a tea kettle. We supply two dish towels, dish soap and sponge, and dishwasher cleaner.

Laundry
A washing machine as well as an iron and ironing board are available for our guests in our laundry room.

Minimum Stay
The minium stay in all our apartments is 2 nights.

Parking
There are metered parking spaces all around the Altstadthaus that you can use. Please be aware that we cannot reserve any spaces for our guests as it is a public parking zone. You can find more information on directions and parking under Contact.

Smoking
All our apartments are NON-SMOKING accommodations and we would ask you to keep in mind the guests that will want to enjoy them after you.

Stairs
The building is a 4 story walk up. The staircase is the original staircase from 1900, and very comfortable to walk up. There is no elevator. We have apartments in all floors of the house. If you require an apartment in a lower floor, please inform us and we will try to accommodate your request.

Tap water
Please drink and enjoy our tap water. Graz has very good drinking water.
The water in Graz is completely natural. It has not been treated or chlorinated. The water tastes fresh and good. The groundwater fields have existed since the last ice age and are filled with calcareous gravel and sand. This makes the drinking water in Graz hard, 15 ° dH to 17 ° dH (° dH = German hardness). This natural “hardness” ensures a pleasant taste and has favorable effects on your circulation and bone structure.

Contact, Directions and Mobility

GETTING TO THE ALTSTADTHAUS

... by car
The nearest motorway exit (A2) is Graz Ost. You can get to the Rankengasse and the Altstadthaus from there via Liebenauer Stadion – Messe/Stadthalle – Karlauerbrücke – Lagergasse. For planning your journey from your own doorstep to ours you can use the route planner which we have set up for you further down.
The Altstadthaus lies within the so-called green parking zone. That means that there are no time limitations but all the parking spots are metered – minimum charge is €1 (for half an hour) and €11 for a whole day. The charges apply on Monday to Friday from 9am to 8pm. There are two vending machines for tickets across the road from the Altstadthaus and you can pay with coins, Maestro or credit cards. Please be aware that we do not offer private parking spots and cannot reserve any because it is a public parking zone.

... by train
Most trains to Graz arrive at the Hauptbahnhof. From there you can take the tram lines 1, 3, 6 and 7 (to Roseggerhaus) and the bus line 67 (in the direction of Zentralfriedhof) to Albert-Schweizer-Gasse. This stop is approx. 3 minutes walking distance from the Altstadthaus. For more detailed information on the bus and tram routes the Grazer Linien offer a "BusBahnBim-Auskunft" (German only).

... by plane
There are two ways to get from the airport, Graz Thalerhof, to the Altstadthaus. You can take the bus lines 630 or 631. This bus leaves directly in front of the main entrance of the airport and stops at Griesplatz. The walking distance from this stop to the Altstadthaus is approx. 5 minutes. The second option is the city train S5 from Flughafen Graz to Hauptbahnhof. More information on how to get from/to the airport here.

... by taxi
There are several cab companies in Graz that have ranks both at the airport and the main station. Rides from the airport are between €16 and €20, rides from the main station between €6 and €10. Please be aware that these are only approximate prices and that we cannot guarantee their accuracy.

GETTING AROUND IN GRAZ

... on foot
You can reach the city centre in about 10 to 15 minutes on foot. The loveliest – but slightly longer – route is via the Augarten park and the promenade along the left riverside of the Mur. To fully enjoy the atmosphere of the old town with its museum and sights, walking is certainly the best way to get around.

... with public transport
Graz offers a good network of buses and trams. By the way, we call the latter “Bim” which probably stems from the sound they make when they want to alert pedestrians or cars. Since September 2013 you can use the tram lines in the inner city for free thanks to the "Altstadt-Bim" initiative.

... by bike
If you would like to combine your city trip with a bit more sport, Graz with its many bike lanes is an ideal destination. Bicycles can be stored in the entrance hall of the Altstadthaus. But don’t fret if you cannot fit yours into your car or if you are traveling by plane or train: grazbike.at offers an easy and quick way to get one for the duration of your stay. The website is German only but if you’d like some help in reserving a bike, we are always happy to help.

Staying with Margarethe

In most houses from the Gründerzeit period the caretaker’s flat was located close to the entrance. That way, Margarethe was always the first to greet new visitors and was able to keep an eye on what was going on in the house.

The flat’s 40 m² offer everything you need for a comfortable stay in Styria’s capital city. Through a small anteroom you enter the heart of the apartment - a spacious room with a combined sleeping, living and cooking area. The apartment has a full bath with a walk-in shower. And should you ever wish to escape the busy city life for a few hours, a selection of books from different genres and a flatscreen TV will provide you with some entertainment.

"Staying with Margarethe" is an apartment for one or two people.
Rate for this apartment is €93 per night plus a one time cleaning fee of €55. This price includes VAT. Go on a quest for organ pipes and find your very own reading corner - on the balcony or maybe in Lilli`s rocking chair.

Your home with Oskar and Lilli provides you with everything you need in 54 m². The bedroom has a double-bed and a comfy sofa bed, which offer space for three people. An additional sofa bed can be found in the living room. The adjacent, fully equipped kitchen leads to a small balcony with a view of the green garden of the Altstadthaus. The spacious bathroom offers a walk-in shower and a bath tub. Being a Bibliotel, the apartment of course also has a small library.

"Staying with Oskar and Lilli" is an apartment for one to four people.
Rate for this apartment (for up to two people) is €114 per night plus a one time cleaning fee of €55. In 2010, we decided to breathe new life into these old walls and started renovating some of the flats. After two years of breaking down walls and then rebuilding some others, painting rooms and window frames, polishing floors and designing furniture, we opened the five apartments of the Altstadthaus.

We want to show our guests the real Graz as we know it and love it. Our seven fictional hosts not only give each individual apartment its own character, but they will also help you become an "echter Grazer."

Home

Just like Graz as a European Capital of Culture, the Altstadthaus offers its guests a perfect combination of the original house from the Gründerzeit and modern design elements.

Each apartment gets both its name and special character from people typical for Graz - for example Margarethe, the caretaker or Amalia, the laundress from the nearby Griesplatz.
